Bright Data Review

Bright Data was founded in 2014 as Luminati and adopted its current name in 2021. EMK Capital acquired the company in 2017. The principal operating entity identified in the terms is Bright Data Ltd. in Israel, while Bright Data, Inc. is generally the contracting entity for US clients unless the agreement says otherwise.

The proxy catalog covered here contains 7 services. Residential Proxies provide access to a shared rotating and sticky residential network. Datacenter Proxies are divided into a rotating shared pool billed by traffic, a static shared list billed by IP, and a static dedicated list billed by IP. ISP Proxies follow the same three-way division. Bright Data also uses the name Static Residential Proxies for its ISP family; it is not an additional proxy network.

Mobile Proxies require a careful qualification. A Mobile package is still shown on the public package page, but the recorded authenticated proxy-zone wizard exposed only Residential, Datacenter, and ISP products. This review therefore does not count Mobile as a confirmed orderable service, but it also does not claim that Bright Data has definitively discontinued it.

IPv4 modes, domain-specific residential groups, rotation, sticky sessions, failover, caching, targeting, and management interfaces are configurations or features, not extra proxy services. Bright Data separately sells web-unblocking, crawling, browser automation, scraper, dataset, data-delivery, retail-intelligence, and AI-agent products.

Residential and the 2 rotating shared services offer PAYG without a traffic commitment or monthly traffic packages. The 4 static Unlimited services start at 1 IP and charge per allocated address for 30 days. Their name does not remove usage limits: each IP includes 100 GB per month, with overage charged at the network's PAYG rate.

All services support HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 with zone credentials. Optional IP and domain allowlists have no quantity limit; IP entries can be individual addresses, ranges, CIDR subnets or netmasks, managed in the Dashboard or API. Allowlisting restricts credential use rather than replacing username/password authentication.

Static plans provide downloadable lists, country-level selection, failover, replacement and refresh controls. There is no universal replacement quota or window, and refreshes or country changes may allocate new addresses and incur charges. Allowances are pooled separately across Unlimited Datacenter and Unlimited ISP zones; the Datacenter allowance resets on the first calendar day. Shared plans publish neither a customers-per-IP count nor a clear same-address renewal guarantee.

Rotating gateways support a new IP per request and Session IDs with keep-alive. The Residential FAQ and rotation API specify a 5-minute idle timeout, while the newer general FAQ gives up to 7 minutes. A keep-alive interval below 5 minutes is the conservative choice until that conflict is resolved.

The 6 Datacenter and ISP plans can use a one-time proxy credit valid for 7 days, with additional credit valid for 30 days after a valid payment method is added, subject to account and product access. These credits do not by themselves establish access to every proxy zone.

Free Tier documentation gives Playground or other unfunded accounts an account-wide limit of 1,000 requests per minute for the listed products. Limited Trial is a separate mode with 100 requests per minute across all products and a cap on each top-up until verification.

Residential testing needs separate confirmation before payment: access requires funding, registered-company KYC and human approval, while KYC is unavailable in Playground and Limited Trial. The general proxy-credit offer therefore does not establish a Residential trial path.

An account is required to create a zone. Sign-in uses an email magic link or six-digit code; users can receive separate roles and API credentials. Public plans use the Control Panel, while custom terms use sales. ISP and Datacenter zones avoid Residential KYC. Residential requires a registered company, corporate email, funding, company and use-case information, and registration documents; extra identity or online-presence evidence, or a video call, may be requested. The KYC update target is 48 hours.

Rotating services use gateway credentials with routing parameters in the username. Static Unlimited zones expose allocated IPs that can be viewed, copied, or downloaded as host, port, username, and password.

The provider-wide native HTTP/HTTPS endpoint is brd.superproxy.io:44445; SOCKS5 and SOCKS5h use brd.superproxy.io:22228. Bright Data's certificate migration notice sets September 25, 2026 at 00:00 UTC as the expiry deadline for legacy certificates on ports 22225 and 33335. Connections using those certificates require migration; use the documented certificate and port for the zone.

No universal ISP or Datacenter activation time is published. Residential depends on KYC, while static allocation can vary with country, quantity, and inventory.

Static allocation can be lost during suspension. An automatic negative-balance suspension lasting more than 24 hours may release static IPs; user-selected suspension does not retain them, and its exact release time is not published. These rules cover static Datacenter and ISP allocations and dedicated Residential gIP groups.

The Control Panel handles zones, plans, funding, payment methods, users, API keys, allocated IPs, limits, usage, invoices, and support. Webhooks can report balance, recharge, compliance, maintenance, outage, and static-IP replacement events.

Usage reports show bandwidth, request count, and average bandwidth per request, filterable by time, zone, product, and target domain. Static customers can monitor allowances pooled by network type.

The Account Management and Proxy Manager APIs cover zone lifecycle, passwords, static-IP operations, IP and domain access rules, countries, balances, bandwidth, and cost statistics through JSON and bearer authentication.

API keys belong to individual users: one per user, displayed once, optionally expiring, and invalidated on refresh. Proxy credentials remain separate. Administrative, finance, operations, user, and limit-management roles separate billing, operations, and automation access.

The public documentation covers Residential, Datacenter, ISP, Proxy Manager, administration, billing, compliance, and APIs. Generated credentials, zone examples, and some operational details require the Control Panel.

Proxy guides explain setup, first requests, credentials, rotation, sessions, errors, and DNS, SSL, certificate, and Windows troubleshooting. Examples include cURL, Python, Node.js, and common third-party tools.

English is primary, with a Chinese-localized area. Proxy Manager has separate guides for routing Bright Data and external proxies, rules, sessions, and local management. The API reference supports provisioning and reporting automation.

Use generated zone examples when deploying or upgrading a configuration whose behavior depends on a specific parameter.

Bright Data prices its public proxy services in US dollars and uses a prepaid account balance. Pay-as-you-go traffic is deducted from that balance, monthly traffic commitments recharge on the billing cycle, and static per-IP plans renew monthly by default. Auto-recharge can be configured or disabled; ordinary PAYG usage is not automatically funded unless the customer enables it.

The detailed official list names credit card, PayPal, AliPay, Payoneer, wire transfer, and Amazon Marketplace.

A minimum funding requirement applies when the trial path is unavailable. Monthly commitment recharges and billing cycles use the first day of the month in UTC. Low-balance and failed-auto-recharge notifications are available, and insufficient funds or non-payment can lead to suspension.

Electronic invoices and receipts are available. The invoice for the prior month is issued by the third Israeli business day, and company details can be stored in Account Settings for invoice addressing. Payments made in other currencies are converted to US dollars at the invoice-date rate. Published prices exclude applicable withholding and other taxes, which remain the customer's responsibility under the agreement.

Card verification can create a temporary authorization that remains pending for one to fourteen business days. Bright Data does not publish one settlement timetable covering wire transfers and every other delayed method, nor does it publish a complete method-specific fee schedule. Buyers using a non-card route should allow extra time before depending on the funded balance.

Bright Data's default position is that payments are non-refundable. The Master Service Agreement treats subscription fees as non-refundable, and promotional bonus funds are also excluded from refunds. This applies differently from a conventional short money-back guarantee: buyers should not assume that cancelling an unused zone creates an automatic entitlement to cash repayment.

An exception can be requested by contacting Bright Data support or the assigned account manager. The provider does not publish a standard request window, eligible usage threshold, guaranteed refund amount, review deadline, processing time, repayment method, or fee schedule for such exceptions. Approval is therefore discretionary rather than promised.

This policy makes the trial and initial funding decisions important. A customer evaluating a new network should confirm access requirements, country availability, and the applicable test path before moving to a large monthly commitment. For Residential Proxies, that includes resolving the KYC and trial-access path in advance.

Bright Data publishes a Master Service Agreement, Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy, support terms, and a network SLA. Customers must use the services for lawful, authorized purposes and remain responsible for their users, credentials, targets, and data collection.

Prohibited activity includes fraud, impersonation, malware, denial-of-service attacks, spam, artificial engagement, click or advertising fraud, ticket bots, unlawful gambling activity, fake accounts or content, collection of nonpublic data, infringement of third-party rights, and attempts to reverse engineer or compete with the service. Reselling proxy access requires prior written authorization.

Proxy-network restrictions also cover blocked target categories and technical controls. Search-engine hosts, mail-related destinations, and certain government, adult, harmful, or streaming targets can be blocked. Direct requests to a target's host IP are prohibited or may bypass peer routing, and additional destination ports can require compliance review. Residential use is limited to the use case accepted during KYC.

Bright Data can investigate suspected abuse, restrict targets, suspend service, assist law enforcement, and share relevant customer information when required. Suspension or termination may follow security risk, harm to the service or third parties, legal exposure, fraud, reputational risk, payment delinquency, policy violations, or failed validation. The published materials do not provide a formal appeal timetable.

The privacy and service terms allow monitoring for billing, security, and abuse prevention. Bright Data does not enumerate the exact proxy-connection log fields or publish a fixed retention period for proxy logs. Personal information is retained as necessary to provide services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

The contractual SLA commits to 99.9% monthly network uptime, excluding scheduled maintenance and other stated exceptions. Uptime of at least 99.0% but below 99.9% qualifies for a capped service credit; below 99.0%, a larger capped credit applies.

Claims are submitted through support, and confirmed credits are applied within one billing cycle. The agreement is governed by Israeli law and assigns exclusive jurisdiction to the courts of Tel-Aviv-Jaffa. It also includes a class-action waiver to the extent allowed by law.

Support channels include Control Panel tickets, email, live support, and account-linked support management. The Control Panel also offers an AI assistant. Premium and Enterprise arrangements can add a dedicated Slack channel, subject-matter experts, and technical account management.

Standard SLA support hours are Sunday through Friday, 07:00-20:00 UTC. Priority-zero incidents receive 24/7 coverage. Premium and Enterprise support are described as 24/7 services. Initial response targets are 15 minutes for P0, 4 business hours for P1, and 2 business days for P2.

Premium support is billed as a percentage of the monthly invoice, subject to a minimum and cap. Enterprise support has a separate monthly charge. Both require coordination with sales or an account manager. Enterprise includes a dedicated technical account manager, while the SLA also identifies a named support manager for covered accounts.

Official descriptions are not fully consistent about free-account access to staff. The support-plan page says Standard Support is included with all plans, and Free Tier accounts can create tickets and use the Sophie assistant. Neither fact proves access to live, staffed, or prioritized help: the general FAQ links staff assistance to paying or enterprise accounts. Free users should confirm the response path they will receive.

Bright Data also maintains a public network-status page covering current and historical product and datacenter events. The provider claims support in major languages but does not publish a precise language list.

Bright Data's non-proxy catalog is large enough to function as a separate data platform. Web Access APIs include Unlocker API, Discover API, Crawl API, SERP API, and Browser API. These products handle blocking, search retrieval, crawling, or remote browser execution without requiring the customer to manage each proxy request directly.

The data-extraction range includes Scraper APIs and Scraper Studio, while the delivery side includes Datasets, Data Firehose, Web Archive, and Data Packages. Retail Intelligence, Managed Data Acquisition, and Deep Lookup address managed collection and analysis rather than raw proxy access. Search & Extract, Agent Browser, and Bright Data MCP are aimed at AI and agentic workflows.

Proxy Manager and the Browser Extension are support tools for existing proxy access. Proxy Manager can run locally or in the cloud, manage Bright Data and external proxies, apply routing rules, and maintain sessions. The extension provides browser-level selection and control but does not supply a separate proxy network.

Standard products and the general free tier are available through self-service account flows, while managed acquisition, enterprise data, and custom engagements use sales-assisted access. The Free Tier provides recurring credits across several API and scraper products, and some agent-oriented tools are presented as free. These credits are separate from the one-time proxy trial credit discussed earlier.

Bright Data also operates affiliate, solution-partner, AI-startup, and public-interest programs. They provide referral arrangements, implementation partnerships, credits, or pro-bono access around existing products rather than creating additional proxy services.
